Working at KWS
As tomatoes have one of the greatest genetic pools, there are many different types. So, how to decide what tomato to breed? With our fresh approach to tomato cultivation, we want to strike the perfect balance between sustainability and labor-friendly varieties that are easy to cultivate. Our programs focus on the main global segments, but also include important specialties to address the needs of our customers. We focus on North and South America and European markets, leading to several distinct product categories. That is why we are close to the market and leverage the strengths of our germplasm with a vision for consumers trends.
Climate change, including rising temperatures, will make future tomato production more complex. This also increases the risk of new pests and diseases. We are constantly seeking for improved, adaptable varieties that can perform under diverse conditions across all the countries we operate in. All our tomato varieties include resistance against Virus/ToBRFV, Begomo virus (TYLCV), Cladosporium, Oidium, Phytophthora, and Stemphylium.
We believe sustainable solutions can only be created if we work closely with our customers and understand their needs. That’s why we have our boots on the ground, close to the grower and close to the market. This enables us to breed competitive varieties within the traditional tomato portfolio and leverage the strengths of our germplasm to create a strong new portfolio focused on consumer trends.
We aim to boost tomato consumption by showcasing versatile uses. From Mexican Saladette tomatoes in Pico de Gallo to Spanish varieties in Salmorejo; our products meet diverse culinary needs. Our Italian San Marzano tomatoes enhance salads and soups, while our cocktail plum and snacking tomatoes (red, orange, and brown) offer unbeatable taste and yield without compromising resistance.
